26 Clubs Join League 2 Competition 2024/25 Season

Jakarta, Todaysgist.com – The 2024/2025 Indonesian League 2 competition season will be participated by 26 football clubs and will play 291 matches.

Kick-off The second level of the football competition was held in Bojonegoro, East Java, Saturday (7/9/2024), bringing together Persibo Bojonegoro against Gersik United.

“This season our matches have increased to 291 matches with fewer teams compared to last year. This year there are 26 teams participating, while last season there were 28 teams. However, the number of matches is much greater,” said President Director of PT Liga Indonesia Baru Ferry Paulus in a press conference at Pegadaian Tower, Jakarta, Tuesday (3/9/2024).

According to him, the League 2 competition which is mainly sponsored by Pegadaian this year is also being made more competitive. “The number of matches has increased from 260 to 291 matches this season, then the system is more competitive with groups 8 and 18,” he said.

Ferry further said that his party is committed to presenting video assistant referee (VAR) in the next competition season, while in the current competition season VAR is not used.

VAR is basically a video replay system to help match officials review key moments so that referee decisions are more accurate.

“Next season we are committed to presenting VAR because the difficulty in presenting VAR is not only from the financial side but the infrastructure in the stadiums or in the League 2 clubs is currently still inadequate. Hopefully next season we can present it, we are preparing,” he said.

Meanwhile, President Director (Dirut) of PT Pegadaian Damar Latri Setiawan said the football match would have a positive impact on the local economy because it would support economic activities, especially for MSMEs trading around the match arena.

Meanwhile, the General Chairman of the All Indonesia Football Association (PSSI) Erick Thohir emphasized that the game of football must uphold honesty and there must be no cheating practices, including in the implementation of League 2 2024/2025.

He said that until now, there was no indication of cheating in the implementation of the competition.

“Our nation must build its culture. What kind of culture? Ready to compete among ourselves or with other nations but the system must be fair,” he said.

He also appreciated the involvement of Pegadaian as the main sponsor for the implementation of the 2024/2025 League 2 competition. This season’s League 2 will end on February 25, 2025.

“I am here to ensure that Liga 2 and Pegadaian work together well, this is because both are protecting the brand,” he said.
