Indonesian women’s singles athlete, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, managed to win the first medal for the Red and White contingent at the 2024 Paris Olympics, specifically in the badminton sport.

Although she lost to South Korean representative An Se Young in the semifinals, Gregoria automatically won a bronze medal after Spanish women’s singles player Carolina Marin had to withdraw due to injury.

“I feel sad for Marin. It’s not easy to compete while injured, hopefully she recovers soon and can play again. I never thought I would get this medal, although I am very grateful, but this is not the way I expected,” said Gregoria Mariska to SCTV.

“Both Bing Jiao and Marin deserve this medal and I hope Marin can recover soon,” he added.
