5G Key to Indonesia's Digital Economic Growth, Kominfo Prepares Strategy Towards Vision 2045

To help the growth of digital infrastructure, Denny said that Kominfo would provide new frequencies for the expansion and growth of the internet.

For information, the frequencies used for internet needs are 850/900/1800MHz, and 2.1/2.3/5GHz. Some of these frequencies have been used for 5G needs.

In order to make Indonesia's digital infrastructure more advanced, Kominfo has prepared several new frequencies. In 2024, Kominfo plans to release new frequencies, namely 700MHz and 26GHz.

The 700MHz frequency was previously intended for analog television broadcasting. After Analog TV is turned off (Analog Switch Off/ASO), Kominfo will prepare the frequency to help internet infrastructure in Indonesia.

According to Kominfo data, total bandwidth available for the 700 MHz frequency is 45MHz FDD (Frequency Division Duplex).

Meanwhile, the 26 GHz frequency is also planned to be auctioned by Kominfo starting in 2024. Kominfo said this frequency will be auctioned for the 5G TDD network with a bandwidth of 2750MHz.

It doesn't stop there, in 2025, Kominfo plans to auction two new frequencies, namely 2.6GHZ and 3.3GHZ and 3.5GHz.

Previously, the 2.6 GHZ frequency was intended for subscription satellite TV. Now, those frequencies will be available for IMT mobile technology.

Not only that, the 3.3 and 3.5GHz frequencies will also be auctioned for Indonesia's internet infrastructure needs. These two frequencies were previously used for fixed satellite services and Broadband Wireless Access (BWA).

Later, the 3.3GHz frequency will be available after completing the BWA migration in 2022, while the 3.5GHz frequency will be available gradually in certain areas.
