Achievements at BAC Missed the Target, This is a PBSI Evaluation

– PP PBSI evaluates the failure of the Indonesian contingent to achieve its target at the Badminton Asia Championships (BAC).

Indonesia was only able to win one title in this championship, namely in the men’s singles number. In the other two events, namely mixed doubles and men’s doubles, the Red and White Team did not meet the target set, namely to become champions.

Evaluation of the results of the championship which was held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates was disclosed by the Head of Development and Achievement Division of PP PBSI Rionny Mainaky.

Rionny said that Indonesian badminton players should be able to follow the example of Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, who won the men’s singles number.

“Like (Anthony Sinisuka) Ginting. He who struggled should have lost against China (against Li Shi Feng in the quarter-finals), but he tried. That from his fighting power was extraordinary and this must be emulated by other sectors,” said Rionny at Pelatnas PBSI Cipayung, East Jakarta, Thursday (4/5/2023).

In the last eight, Ginting gave up 10-21 in the first game. But then he got up and put the Chinese badminton player away after passing deuce with 23-21 and 26-14.

The men’s doubles number which was the hope also ran aground despite the world number one pair Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto. Meanwhile, in the mixed doubles, Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto/Lisa Ayu Kusumawati failed to continue due to injury. Even though they just entered the top 10 in the world.

“Rehan is very unfortunate, he has a few problems. That actually happened here (Pelatnas), when he jumped it was not comfortable. Three days there (Dubai) we thought he could recover, didn’t know he still hadn’t fully recovered. The target was maybe he could take the gold (champion),” said Rionny.

PBSI also highlighted the performance of women’s singles and women’s doubles athletes who still needed additional attention. In women’s doubles, Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti ran aground in the first round after being eliminated by representatives of Thailand, Benyapa Aimsaard/Nuntakarn Aaimsaard.

In this number, Rionny saw the players experiencing mental conditions that went up and down. This fact must be evaluated by the coach, especially since the Olympics are in sight, so preparation must really be improved.

Rionny revealed that the ability of athletes to adapt on the field is important. Even if the technical factor is already qualified, if the mentality is not strong it will be difficult to adapt to field conditions.

“That’s honey, because rubber sets. Due to wind conditions, Grego made many mistakes. This means the control is not good,” said Rionny.
