After 40 Years, Microsoft Finally Releases 2 New Features in Notepad

Todaysgist.com, Jakarta – Microsoft has just launched two new features for the Notepad application. The presence of these two features is interesting, because for 40 years there have been no new features in Notepad.

Quoting information from The Verge, Tuesday (9/7/2024), the two new features in Notepad are spellcheck (check spelling) and autocorrect (autocorrect).

These two features have been in testing since March 2024, and are now rolling out to all Windows 11 users in stages.

As the name suggests, the feature spellcheck almost similar to the one in Microsoft Word. Later, the mistyped word will be underlined in red to make it easier for users to see the error.

This feature can be enabled or disabled by Windows 11 users based on the file type, such as .md, .srt, .lrc, or .lic. This feature will also be automatically disabled in the log and other file types related to encoding.

However, a little different from Word, when a user right-clicks on a wrong word in Notepad, the spelling correction option does not open immediately. The user needs to click again to see the list of correct spellings.

Meanwhile for the features autocorrect In Notepad, this feature will automatically correct any typos. Just be aware that this feature needs to be activated first.

For your information, Notepad was first released by Microsoft in 1983 under the name Multi-Tool Notepad. This application was indeed designed as a simplified version of Microsoft Word.
