After Changing Strategy, Ginting Falls for the 14th Time to Axelsen
Jakarta, Todaysgist.com – Indonesian men’s singles player Anthony Sinisuka Ginting was defeated again by Danish representative Viktor Axelsen at the 2024 Hong Kong Open, Saturday (14/9/2024) and failed to advance to the final.
This is Ginting’s 14th defeat against Axelsen in 19 meetings. The last meeting between the two before the 2024 Hong Kong Open was in the quarter-finals of the 2024 All England. At that time Ginting won 8-21, 21-18, 21-19.
In the match at the Hong Kong Coliseum, Ginting surrendered to the second-ranked men’s singles with a score of 9-21 and 19-21. The 10th-ranked men’s singles surrendered after fighting for 42 minutes.
Indonesia failed to qualify its representative to the men’s singles final of the BWF Super 500 level championship because another representative, Jonatan Christie, also stopped in the semifinals. Jojo was unable to get a ticket to the final round after losing to Chinese representative Lei Lan Xie. Jojo lost with a score of 14-21, 21-12, and 17-21. Jojo stopped after playing 69 minutes against the men’s singles ranked 33rd.
“In the first game I tried to play Axelsen’s game, but it was not right for the conditions. In the second game I tried to change my strategy and find a way, especially when I was behind and had started to spell it out. Unfortunately, in the last point I couldn’t equalize and then forced rubber game,” he explained.
Despite losing, Ginting learned a lesson from the match. The positive side of the match against Axelsen was that he did not give up easily. Even though he was behind, Ginting continued to find a good way to play.
“From Axelsen there is no significant change after winning his second Olympic gold. Similar to our last meeting only the field conditions and everything are different,” said the player from Cimahi, West Java.
Ginting said he was quite pleased with his performance this week. He hopes for better results at the China Open next week.
