“In the momentum of the celebration of Indonesian Independence Day, my enthusiasm is increasing. I want to give my best and make Indonesia proud,” said Indonesian mixed doubles player, Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto in an official PBSI statement.

Not only the spirit of commemorating independence, the Head Coach of Indonesian Men’s Doubles, Aryono Miranat, also highlighted the new spirit and atmosphere presented ahead of the Japan Open this time.

This is related to two new pairs who will debut in the BWF Super 750 tournament, namely Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Daniel Marthin and Leo Rolly Carnando/Bagas Maulana.

“The formation of this new pair aims to refresh and provide new challenges for the players. I saw during training, they were so excited and wanted to show their best abilities. Hopefully this change will have a positive impact on all players,” explained Aryono.

Meanwhile, Leo revealed that pairing with Bagas was not an obstacle for him. Because, they have often played together during practice.

“Bagas and I often partner up during training. So, there is no need for further adaptation. We are happy with this new atmosphere,” said Leo.

“Being paired with Leo, there is no problem. I am increasingly excited with this new partner,” added Bagas.

Unfortunately, women’s singles Gregoria Mariska Tunjung had to cancel her appearance. The 2024 Paris Olympics bronze medalist was forced to withdraw from her participation in the Japan Open due to chicken pox.

With Gregoria’s withdrawal, Indonesia’s women’s singles team now only has Ester Nurumi Tri Wardoyo left.

“It’s very unfortunate that Brother Grego canceled his appearance. However, I will remain enthusiastic. Moreover, this is my first tournament in the Japan Open. I will perform optimally,” said Ester.

In the 2024 Japan Open tournament, the world’s top players will compete for a total prize of 850 thousand US dollars.
