A survey released this Tuesday (10) by Consensys revealed that 96% of Brazilians have heard of or know about Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. The survey was carried out online by the research and analysis group YouGov, highlighting the growing interest of Brazilians in the crypto universe.
The study shows that 56% of people know what cryptoactives are, while 40% have some idea, but do not fully understand the concept.
Despite the increase in popularity, costs remain one of the main obstacles. Around 47% of respondents consider the market to be very expensive, reflecting a significant financial barrier for many.
Furthermore, the Northeast leads the national ranking of investors in cryptocurrencies, with 45.3% of people already investing or owning digital assets. Other regions, such as the South (43.4%) and Southeast (40.7%), follow closely, demonstrating that interest is broad and diversified across the country.
Cryptocurrencies
In total, 43% of Brazilians said they had invested in or owned cryptocurrencies, exceeding the global average of 42%.
While concerns about scams and volatility still exist, data shows a slight reduction in these fears. Only 41% cite fraud as an impediment, and 36% point to volatility as a problem.
This panorama suggests that understanding of the market is evolving and that initial fears have diminished.
Another important point is the growing recognition of cryptocurrencies as tools for financial inclusion. For 28% of Brazilians who have already invested, exclusion from the traditional financial system was a determining factor.
Furthermore, 35% believe that cryptocurrencies promote greater privacy on the internet, while 56% consider them environmentally friendly, highlighting Bitcoin as the most sustainable asset.
Despite this, there are still challenges in understanding. Only 16% of Brazilians understand the concept of Web3, and less than 20% understand the difference between custody and self-custody wallets. However, 61% show interest in learning more about these technologies.
