The X (formerly Twitter) account of Yat Siuco-founder of Animoca Brandswas compromised and used to promote a fake token, according to the company’s official statement.
Animoca Brands, a venture capital firm focused on metaverse and gaming, alerted its followers about the incident. Furthermore, denied the release of any official token or NFT.
According to the crypto asset researcher ZachXBTthe attack probably occurred through a phishing email. The supposed e-mail claimed to be a copyright infringement notification.
Malicious actors have used this method in several recent attacks. The coup tactic allowed the invaders to accumulate around US$500 thousand in losses in the last month.
The fraudulent post, published from Yat Siu’s account, promoted a token called GIRLreportedly on the Solana blockchain. Screenshots of the scam were released by ZachXBT, highlighting that the fake launch alluded to Moca Coin (MOCA), a real token managed by Moca Foundation.
THE Moca Foundationdescribed as a community organization that seeks to boost the network effects of the system Mocaverseconfirmed that the official accounts of Animoca Brands, Moca Network and the foundation itself remain secure.
According to the foundation, X managed to regain control of Yat Siu’s account. Now, there is a process to verify its ownership. Furthermore, There were no signs of compromise of other accounts related to Animoca or the Mocaverse ecosystem.
Animoca Brands also highlighted that strict security measures remain in place to protect your digital assets and prevent future similar incidents.
