Apple-Foxconn Eyes India for iPad Production, to Reduce Dependence on China?

The production increase is expected to include iPhones, iPads, and a few other products, but likely not Macs.

Foxconn’s research to add iPad production to its workload in India is considered quite appropriate. This is because in early July, Apple also investigated the issue. Apparently, Apple wants to expand production of iPads as well as AirPods charging cases.

Meanwhile, on July 23, the Indian government decided to make it easier for smartphone and electronics manufacturers to operate in India by cutting import duties on iPhones and certain iPhone components.

As a result, this makes iPhone production cheaper for Apple and its supply chain partners.

Previously, the import tax rate was 20 percent, but now it is 15 percent. For Apple, this tax rate reduction could mean a cost reduction of between USD 35 million and USD 50 million per year.
