Arriving in England, Marselino Ferdinan Officially Joins Oxford United

Jakarta, Todaysgist.com – Indonesian player Marselino Ferdinan has arrived in England. He officially joined Oxford United, a club that plays in the Championship League.

On the Oxford United club website, Monday (19/8/2024), the club owned by Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Erick Thohir said “Welcome to Oxford” to Marselino Ferdinan.

“Oxford United is delighted to announce the signing of highly sought after and talented Indonesian international Marselino Ferdinan,” Oxford United said in a statement.

The 19-year-old forward arrived at Oxford on 26 caps for his country and three goals. Last year, he helped Indonesia U-22 win the SEA Games gold for the first time in 32 years.

Marselino Ferdinan also holds the record as the youngest international goal scorer in Indonesia. In addition, this year he became the youngest goal scorer in the history of the Asian Cup finals.

The player whose full name is Marselino Ferdinan Philipus is also a key player for the Indonesian U-23 team, which reached the semifinals of the 2024 AFC U-23 and led Indonesia to the Olympic play-off against Guinea in Paris last May.

Marselino began his career in Indonesia, and spent last season with Belgian club Deinze. Marselino would become the first Indonesian-born player to feature in the Sky Bet Championship if selected by Oxford United this season.

“I am very happy and still can’t believe I am here. To be the first Indonesian-born player to play in the Championship if selected. It makes me very proud. I will not waste this opportunity, and I will give 100% to make the most of it,” he said.

Oxford United manager Des Buckingham said Marselino Ferdinand was an exciting player.

“The reports from Asia are that he is one of the best young players coming through. So it’s an opportunity to have him here and be part of what we’re doing,” he said.

He is said to be a very exciting forward and Oxford United are delighted to have him. “Marselino has many of the attributes we look for in a player and a person and we can see that he has a real desire to want to improve and take this opportunity,” he said.
