Bad Landing Causes Ginting to Stop at Japan Open 2024

Jakarta, Todaysgist.com – A wrong landing position after jumping caused Indonesian men’s singles player Anthony Sinisuka Ginting to injure himself and fail to continue the match against Yushi Tanaka in the last 32 of the Japan Open, Tuesday (20/8/2024).

Appearing on court 1 Yokohama Arena, Yokohama, Ginting only played for 27 minutes. In the first game he lost 12-21. The world’s ninth ranked player could not continue the match in the second game when he was 4-5 behind.

Thus Ginting failed to secure a ticket to the last 16. Meanwhile, Tanaka will meet Jeon Hyeok Jin from South Korea who defeated Chi Yu Jen from Taiwan.

Ginting said that since the first game he tried to play normally. He had watched the video recording of the opponent’s match, so he had a picture of the opponent’s game.

“It’s just that after the first game interval, the timing of the jump and landing was not right. So my left ankle hurts. Moreover, I have a history of injuries in that area. During the preparation, it also felt uncomfortable in this ankle area,” he explained.

Despite feeling pain in his ankle, Ginting forced himself to play in the first game. “However, I was afraid it would get worse. In the second game after a few points, my ankle felt even worse. Finally I decided to withdraw. After this I will focus on recovery first,” said the badminton player from Cimahi, West Java.

Ginting just participated in the 2024 Paris Olympics and was stopped in the group stage. He was in Group H with host badminton player Toma Popov Junior and Howard Shu from the United States. Ginting failed to advance to the next round after being in second place because he lost when he met Toma Popov Junior 19-21, 21-17, and 15-21.

Meanwhile, in another match at the 2024 Japan Open, Tuesday (20/8/2024), the men’s doubles Fajar Alfian/Muhammmad Rian Ardianto successfully won a ticket to the last 16 after defeating Chinese representatives Xie Hao Nan/Zeng Wei Han 22-20, 13-21, and 21-14.
