Bayern Munich Struggles to Win at Wolfsburg Thanks to Thomas Muller’s Trick

Jakarta, Todaysgist.com – Bayern Munich started the 2024/2025 Bundesliga season with a hard-fought victory at Wolfsburg on Sunday (25/8/2024). Veteran Thomas Muller became Bayern’s hero after bringing change when he came on in the second half.

The 34-year-old came on in the 65th minute for Sacha Boey, with Die Roten trailing 2-1. Muller made his 474th league appearance for Bayern, breaking the Bundesliga record for most appearances for Munich.

Muller immediately made a contribution when Bayern equalized through an own goal. The player who decided to retire from the German national team after Euro 2024 also played a role in the creation of the winning goal scored by Serge Gnabry in the final minutes.

As the players celebrated Bayern’s equalizer in the 65th minute, Muller was seen pulling out a notepad from his trousers. The notepad appeared to contain notes from Bayern’s new coach Vincent Kompany.

In the match that took place at the Volkswagen Arena, Wolfsburg started the match well by not giving the visitors much space to control the ball. However, Bayern managed to open the scoring in the 20th minute through Jamal Musiala utilizing a pass from Sacha Boey.

Wolfsburg managed to equalize early in the second half, after Boey fouled Tiago Tomas right in the penalty box. Lovro Majer successfully converted the penalty past goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.

With the deficit, Kompany brought on Muller in the 65th minute when Bayern won a corner. Less than a minute later, Jakub Kaminski scored an own goal to bring Bayern level.

Muller was again involved when Gnabry scored the winner in the 82nd minute, his pass to Harry Kane finding Gnabry who slotted past Wolfsburg goalkeeper Kamil Grabara.

The score remained 3-2 until the referee blew the long whistle, giving Bayern a win in Vincent Kompany’s debut as Munich coach.

Muller joined Bayern in 2000 at the age of 10. The number 25 made his Bundesliga debut in the 2008/09 season under coach Jurgen Klinsmann, replacing Miroslav Klose in a 2-2 draw with Hamburger SV.

Muller is recorded as the record holder for the most Bundesliga titles, with 12 titles. Muller is still far behind the number of appearances of Eintracht Frankfurt defender Karl-Heinz Körbel who holds the record for most appearances in the Bundesliga with 602 appearances between 1972 and 1991.
