Bayern Munich Win Big, Juventus Beat PSV
Jakarta, Todaysgist.com – Bayern Munich kicked off their Champions League campaign with a 9-2 win over Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb, while Italian side Juventus beat PSV Eindhoven 3-0 on Thursday (18/9/2024) early morning WIB.
Bayern Munich won three points thanks to goals from Harry Kane who scored four goals, three of which came from the penalty spot in the 15th, 57th, 73rd and 78th minutes. Other goals were contributed by Raphael Guerreiro in the 33rd minute, Michael Olise (38th and 60th), Leroy Sane (85th), Leon Goretzka (90+5). Zagreb’s two reply goals were scored by Bruno Petkovic in the 49th minute and Takuya Ogiwara (50th).
This big win puts Bayern Munich at the top of the 2024-2025 UEFA Champions League standings with three points and a goal difference of seven, while Dinamo Zagreb are at the bottom of the standings.
Meanwhile at the Allianz Stadium, Turin, the hosts also picked up three points when hosting PSV Eindhoven. The goals for Thiago Motta’s team were scored by Kenan Yildiz in the 21st minute, Weston McKennie (27), and Nico Gonzalez (52).
In other matches, striker Kylian Mbappe led Real Madrid to a 3-1 win over German side VfB Stuttgart, while Portuguese side Sporting CP beat Lille 2-0.
Playing at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, the host Real Madrid, strengthened by the attacking trio of Vinicius Junior, Kylian Mbappe, and Rodrygo, immediately dominated from the start of the match. However, the first half ended goalless.
Entering the second half, Madrid immediately opened the lead just one minute after the match started. Kylian Mbappe scored his first goal for Real Madrid in the Champions League after utilizing a pass from Rodrygo.
Stuttgart had equalized in the 68th minute through Deniz Undav, but Madrid were able to fight back. Carlo Ancelotti’s team regained the lead through Antonio Rudiger in the 83rd minute after receiving a pass from Luka Modric. In the added time (90+5), Endrick completed Madrid’s victory with his debut goal in the Champions League.
With this 3-1 win, Real Madrid is ranked fifth in the 2024-25 UEFA Champions League standings with three points from one game, and a goal difference of two. On the other hand, Stuttgart dropped to 32nd place with zero points and a goal difference of minus two.
In the match at the Jose Alvalade Stadium, Lisbon, Sporting CP managed to beat LOSC Lille with a score of 2-0. Sporting’s two goals were scored by Viktor Gyokeres in the 38th minute, with assist from Pedro Goncalves, and Zeno Debast in the 65th minute after receiving a pass from Daniel Braganca.
The win puts Sporting in sixth place in the standings with three points from one game, with a goal difference of two. Lille, meanwhile, are in 34th place with zero points and a goal difference of minus two.
Meanwhile, Italian giants AC Milan suffered a 1-3 defeat when they hosted Premier League club Liverpool. Playing at the San Siro Stadium, AC Milan actually started the match well, taking the lead through Christian Pulisic’s goal in the third minute after receiving a pass from Alvaro Morata.
However, Liverpool equalized 20 minutes later through defender Ibrahima Konate who successfully latched onto a pass from Trent Alexander-Arnold. Liverpool turned the game around in the 41st minute, when Virgil van Dijk scored after being set up by Kostas Tsimikas.
Dominik Szoboszlai extended Liverpool’s lead in the 67th minute, after receiving a pass from Cody Gakpo, sealing a 3-1 win for the visitors.
With this victory, Liverpool is in third place in the 2024-2025 UEFA Champions League standings with three points from one match and a goal difference of two. On the other hand, AC Milan is in 33rd place with zero points and a goal difference of minus two.
