Beating Serbia 3-0, Spain is getting stronger at the top of Group A4 standings
Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – Spain is increasingly firmly perched at the top of Group A4 of the UEFA Nations League after a landslide 3-0 win over Serbia, Wednesday (16/20/2024) early morning WIB, at the Nuevo Arcangel Stadium, Andalusia.
Spain managed to score three goals through Aymeric Laporte, Alvaro Morata and Alex Baena. Meanwhile, Serbia had to play with 10 men after Strahinja Pavlovic was sent off due to a red card.
With this result, Spain is firmly at the top of Group A4 with 10 points from four matches, while Serbia is in third place with four points. Denmark is in second place in Group A4 with seven points. Meanwhile, Switzerland is in the bottom position because it has only collected one point.
Since the start of the match, the Matador team immediately dominated. They opened the scoring in the fifth minute with a header from Laporte who took advantage of a pass from Pedro Porro’s corner, which Serbian goalkeeper Predrag Rajkovic couldn’t block. The score changed to 1-0 for Spain.
Spain almost doubled their lead in the 16th minute when Mikel Merino’s header hit the post. Meanwhile, a long-range shot from Mikel Oyarzabal in the 34th minute was also saved by Rajkovic. The 1-0 score lasted until the break.
In the second half, Spain had a golden opportunity after a penalty was awarded in the 52nd minute because handball which Veljko Birmancevic did. However, Alvaro Morata, who was the executor, failed to take advantage of this opportunity because his shot went over the crossbar.
Morata made amends by scoring the second goal in the 65th minute, using a pass from Fabian Ruiz. The striker, who is currently defending AC Milan, fired a low shot which Rajkovic couldn’t reach. The score changed to 2-0.
The situation became even more difficult for Serbia after Strahinja Pavlovic received a straight red card in the 76th minute, forcing his team to appear with 10 players.
It didn’t take long for Spain to increase their lead. One minute after the red card, Alex Baena scored a goal with a free kick which went into the top right corner of the Serbian goal, giving Spain a 3-0 lead.
Until the end of the match, there were no additional goals and Spain secured victory with a score of 3-0.
