Beating Taiwanese Representative, Jojo’s Feelings Are Mixed

Jakarta, Todaysgist.com – Indonesian men’s singles player Jonatan Christie admitted that he had mixed feelings after securing a ticket to the last 16 of the 2024 Hong Kong Open, Wednesday (11/9/2024).

Jojo, Jonatan’s nickname, had mixed feelings because he was happy to be able to advance to the next round after performing at the Olympics and was happy because he had just been blessed with a child.

Jojo advanced to the last 16 after stopping Taiwanese representative Wang Tzu Wei with a score of 21-7 and 21-10. The seventh-ranked men’s singles player only needed 30 minutes to eliminate Wang.

This was the 16th meeting between the two players. The win brought Jojo level the score with the 23rd ranked player at 8-8.

“It was a mixed feeling to be back on the field after the Olympics, with the birth of my first child as well. I wanted to try again, start something new, enjoy every match,” said Jojo.

He admitted that the conditions on courts 3 and 4 at the Hong Kong Coliseum were a bit different from courts 1 and 2 when he tried the courts two days ago. His approach and preparation were wrong, but Jojo was happy to be able to control everything and play what he wanted.

“Especially in the second game, I saw Wang Tzu Wei had a hard time controlling his shots. He was a bit confused and I tried to take advantage of that. Hopefully tomorrow in the last 16 my game can be better,” said Jojo.

In the last 16 of the BWF Super 500 tournament, Thursday (12/9/2024), Jojo will meet Rasmus Gemke. The Danish athlete advanced after defeating Justin Hoh from Malaysia with a score of 21-7, 21-23, and 21-18.
