Being in 16th position, Leicester City fired coach Steve Cooper

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – Leicester City management fired coach Steve Cooper after a series of bad results which made the 2015-2016 Premier League champion club slump to 16th position in the standings for the 2024-2025 season.

According to the official statement quoted from the Premier League website, Monday (25/11/2024), Cooper’s dismissal was also followed by assistant coach Alan Tate and first team analyst Steve Rands.

“We thank them for their contribution and wish them the best in the future,” Leicester City said in a statement.

In the interim, Leicester City appointed first team coach Ben Dawson as interim coach. Dawson will be assisted by coaching staff Danny Alcock and Andy Hughes in leading training for Jamie Vardy and his colleagues.

Management has also started the search for a new coach who is expected to join soon to improve the team’s performance.

Leicester City fired coach Steve Cooper after the 1-2 defeat to Chelsea at home on Saturday (23/11/2024), which continued the negative trend for the club based at the King Power Stadium. In the last five matches in all competitions, Leicester have not recorded a win with four defeats and one draw, including failure in the League Cup.

Until now, Leicester have only collected 10 points from 12 matches, leaving them in 16th place in the standings, only two levels above the relegation zone.

Cooper started coaching Leicester in July 2024. However, during his time at the helm, the 44-year-old coach was only able to bring his team to two wins, four draws and six defeats in the Premier League. In 12 matches, Leicester conceded 23 goals and only scored 15 goals, making them one of the teams with the worst conceded record after Wolverhampton Wanderers (28 goals) and Southampton (24 goals).

This dismissal adds to a list of similar experiences for Cooper, who last season was also fired by Nottingham Forest due to poor performance.

Leicester City fired the coach following Manchester United doing the same thing to Erik ten Hag. Next, Leicester City is scheduled to face Brentford on Saturday (30/11/2024) in the continuation of the 2024-2025 Premier League.
