Bitcoin could reach US$185,000 in 2025, predicts Galaxy Research

THE Bitcoin (BTC)the world’s largest cryptocurrency, could reach new records in 2025, with projections of reaching or surpassing US$185 thousand in the last quarter of that year, according to a report from Galaxy Research.
The study also points to significant growth for the Ethereum (ETH)the second largest cryptocurrency on the market. The asset may surpass the $5,500 in the next 12 months, as pointed out by Galaxy Research.
According to Alex Thorn, head of research at Galaxy, the combination of factors such as institutional, corporate and government adoption will be the main driver for these new heights of Bitcoin in 2025.
Galaxy anticipates that five companies in the Nasdaq-100 index and five nations will announce the addition of Bitcoin to their balance sheets or sovereign wealth funds next year. Competition between these countries is expected to drive the next wave of adoption of the asset.
Additionally, the report estimates that total assets under management (AUM) of Spot Bitcoin ETFs in the US will overcome US$250 billion in 2025. At least one major wealth management platform is also expected to announce an allocation of 2% or more in Bitcoin next year.
Galaxy’s research also predicts significant growth in the use of Bitcoin in decentralized finance (DeFi). The total amount of BTC locked in DeFi protocols is expected to double by 2024, from current levels US$11 billion.
Another highlighted trend is the transition of miners to high-performance computing (HPC). More than half of 20 largest listed mining companies should announce partnerships with artificial intelligence firms (AI) or hyperscale providers by 2025.
Finally, the report projects that the Bitcoin will reach 20% of the market value of gold next year, further consolidating its position as a global reserve asset.
The optimistic long-term forecast contrasts with the projection of some traders who believe that BTC could fall to $70,000 before rising again.
