The price of Bitcoin today returned to the $56,000 level after the debate last night, September 10, between US presidential candidates Donald Trump and Kamala Harris.

There was great expectation that the price of BTC and cryptocurrencies in general would benefit if either candidate mentioned crypto assets as part of their campaign strategy. However, this did not happen. Trump and Harris debated a range of topics, from abortion rights to the war in Ukraine. But cryptocurrencies were not on the agenda.

At the time of writing, Bitcoin is trading at $56,730, with a daily depreciation of 0.7%. In Brazilian reais, each BTC costs R$321,300. Meanwhile, Ethereum has fallen 1.1% in the last 24 hours to its current price of $2,321.

The other cryptocurrencies in the Top 10 are also down today: BNB (-1.6%), Solana (-2.6%), XRP (-1.0%), Dogecoin (-3.5%) and Toncoin (-1.2%). But the biggest “losers” of the day, considering the 100 largest cryptocurrencies, are: Dogwifhat (-7.1%), Arweave (-6.9%) and Starknet (-6.0%).

On the other hand, the top 100 cryptocurrencies that rose the most today are: AAVE (+7.8%), Internet Computer (+7.5%) and THORChain (+3.5%).

With the devaluation of most cryptocurrencies this Wednesday (11), the global market value of digital assets is at US$ 2.09 trillion, with a daily drop of 2%, according to data from CoinGecko. Bitcoin’s dominance is at 53.7% and Ethereum’s at 13.4%.

Price of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies

Despite not being mentioned in yesterday’s debate, cryptocurrencies have become a key player in this US presidential election. So far, crypto companies have spent nearly $120 million in 2024, with nearly all of the funds going to super political action committees, specifically the Fairshake PAC.

Additionally, Trump has been more friendly towards the cryptocurrency industry. He has promised to crack down on “illegal and un-American criminality” in the US crypto industry. This is a turnaround from Trump’s previous strong opposition to Bitcoin and other digital assets.

However, Harris has also begun to target the cryptocurrency industry as a campaign strategy. While it is unclear what Harris’ approach to the sector will be, some in the cryptocurrency industry have criticized the Biden administration’s current approach to regulating digital assets.

Furthermore, as afrilatest recently reported , the Democratic candidate for US president released updated details about her policies ahead of the 2024 elections. Despite her platform emphasizing innovation in the US economy, Harris made no explicit mention of cryptocurrencies or blockchain technology. This somewhat disappointed the crypto community that supports the candidate.
