Breaking the Silver Man Myth in Korea, Leo/Bagas Focus on the Next Championship

Jakarta, Todaysgist.com – Indonesian men’s doubles Leo Rolly Carnando/Bagas Maulana do not want to linger in their victory party and are now concentrating on the next tournament after becoming champions of the 2024 Korea Open.

Leo/Bagas successfully became champions of the 2024 Korea Open after defeating the top seeds Kang Min-hyuk/Seo Seung-Jae in the final match, Sunday (1/9/2024) at the Mokpo Indoor Stadium.

Leo/Bagas appeared on the highest podium after defeating the host pair after playing rubber game with a score of 18-21, 21-9, and 21-8. Leo/Bagas stopped the resistance of the world’s fifth-ranked doubles in 48 minutes.

This is a positive note for the newly formed pair. They first competed after being separated from their previous pair at the Japan Open last week. Leo was previously paired with Daniel Marthin. While Bagas’ previous partner was Muhammad Shohibul Fikri.

“Alhamdulillah, we were able to play well as we wanted and were able to emerge as champions for the first time as a new pair. Last week at the Japan Open we were held back in the semifinals and at the Korea Open we were champions,” Leo explained.

According to Leo, after winning the Korea Open, they will focus again on facing the next matches in Hong Kong and China. He emphasized that after getting off the podium, he and Bagas should not think that they will always be champions.

“In the first game, my front game was passed a lot. Even though we ended up losing in the first game, we were able to continue learning to find out what the mistakes were. In the second game we fixed it and thank God we were able to play well and get the win,” Leo said again.

Leo added, in the third game they were more confident after winning the second game. “Moreover, Mas Bagas has a fast smash so he can cover me fully from the back sector. I just have to guard the front box area,” he said.

“In the third game we were very confident again. Moreover, appearing in the final is no longer about technique and so on. It just depends on how mentally to play bravely,” he said.

Bagas Maulana is grateful for this success after previously being called a human being silver because it just becomes runner up. “Finally we can break the egg after being called human for so long silver. Today I can finally become a golden man. I am very grateful to be given victory,” said Bagas.

He praised Leo because he thought the former partner of Daniel Marthin’s game in the front area was very good. “His serve was also very good. I was helped a lot. I could play very well from the back sector. Because from the front game we were already superior, we could attack. This condition made us more confident in the second and third games,” he said.
