BRI Affirms It Does Not Facilitate Online Gambling Transactions

Previously, the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo) would impose a takedown sanction or revocation of the registration certificates of Electronic System Providers (PSE) of 21 Payment Service Providers (PJP) related to online gambling.

“On Friday, August 9, 2024, Kominfo has sent a warning letter to PJPs to ensure that their services do not facilitate online gambling transactions,” said Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Budi Arie Setiadi, in his statement, Saturday (10/8/2024).

There are 21 PJPs with 42 electronic systems (payment services) registered with the Ministry of Communication and Information. One of those mentioned in the official statement of the Ministry of Communication and Information is the service owned by the Limited Liability Company (PERSERO) PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia – Internet Banking Web Bank BRI.

Kominfo found indications of the link between the use of the payment system service for online gambling activities. Therefore, the PJP is threatened with being closed.

The results of the internal examination/audit in question must be submitted to the Ministry of Communication and Information no later than 7 (seven) working days after the warning letter is received.

“Within the 7-day time limit, if Kominfo has not received the results of the examination in question, then the electronic payment service provider will be subject to administrative sanctions based on statutory regulations,” said Budi Arie.
