Brighton vs MU: Ten Hag Reveals Why His Team Lost

– Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag, revealed the cause of his team’s defeat when they traveled to Brighton and Hove Albion, Friday (5/5/2023) early morning WIB. According to the Dutch coach, his team failed to score points due to a lack of concentration.

The penalty at the end of the match scored by Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder, Alexis MacAllister, made Manchester United have to be willing to suffer an eighth defeat in the Premier League, Friday (5/5/2023) early morning Western Indonesian Time.

The match looked likely to end in a goalless draw. However, during injury time in the second half, or to be exact, in the 90+9 minute, Brighton was awarded a penalty. The referee pointed to the spot after MU defender Luke Shaw made a handball.

Referee Andre Mariner had asked for the help of VAR to confirm this penalty and unanimously decided Brighton was entitled to a direct kick from 11 meters. One of Argentina’s heroes when it won the World Cup, Alexis MacAllister stepped forward as executor.

The 24-year-old player did not waste this golden opportunity. He directed the ball to the right and managed to deceive goalkeeper David de Gea. Shortly thereafter the referee sounded the long whistle signaling the end of the game.

According to Ten Hag, Luke Shaw and his friends should have focused until the match was over. “It’s about keeping focus and we can’t lose focus until the end of the game until the last seconds,” said Ten Hag as quoted from the club’s official website, Friday.

“In the end, we gave the goal away and it shouldn’t have happened. It’s maybe a little out of focus,” he added.

Ten Hag also mentioned that the lack of sharpness in finishing was also his team’s weakness in this match at the Amex Stadium. Based on statistics, MU actually managed to release five shots on target but none of them resulted in a goal.

In the first half, said Ten Hag, his team created great chances, but failed to produce a goal. Angry Devils should appear more biting and managed to score goals from opportunities in the first half.

Even though they lost, Ten Hag was reluctant to mention that his team’s performance was declining. He even said David De Gea and his friends were in a positive trend because they were able to win four wins and one draw from the last five matches in the Premier League before meeting Brighton.

“We have to get back up. We have to take lessons from tonight’s result to face West Ham,” said Ten Hag.
