Busy Schedule to Risk of Player Injury
Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – Big changes will occur in the 2025 Club World Cup, which will be attended by 32 teams from various countries. The new format has now come under fire from top European players.
The 2025 Club World Cup will experience major changes by involving 32 teams, previously only 7 teams participated in this competition. The plan is that this competition will take place in mid-2025.
The 2024 Ballon d’Or winner, Rodri, is one of the players who criticized the new format of the 2025 Club World Cup. Rodri became a victim of a busy schedule which resulted in him having to suffer an ACL injury.
The top players will undergo a month-long 2025 Club World Cup tournament on top of the domestic league season. With more matches also added to this season’s Champions League as well as the next World Cup in 2026, the football calendar has become even busier.
The fatigue factor can be the cause of someone experiencing injury. Therefore, Rodri is very worried about the new format that will be used in the 2025 Club World Cup tournament which has a busier schedule.
“It’s something that worries us because we are the ones who suffer,” Rodri said in September, quoted from AP NewsMonday (23/12/2024).
Rodri was not the only one who criticized FIFA’s decision to hold the 2025 Club World Cup. Raphael Varane also said that the change from seven teams to 32 teams could disrupt players’ physical and mental health.
“Why are our opinions not being heard?” Varane said.
Even Real Madrid’s young midfielder, Jude Bellingham, feels burdened by the new format that will apply to the 2025 Club World Cup.
“It’s hard on the body. “We are mentally and physically exhausted,” Bellingham said.
Injury Problems Increase
The index of injured players continues to increase every year. Global insurer Howden found there were 4,123 injuries across the top divisions of England, Spain, Germany, Italy and France last season.
The number of injuries has continued to increase from year to year since the index was first published in 2021.
