RCS Messaging

One thing to look forward to in iOS 18 is support for sending RCS-based SMS text messages with Android users. This will certainly make it easier for users, because RCS is a new technology with better capabilities than SMS.

Even though conversations with RCS are still displayed in green bubbles like SMS, the experience provided is certainly better.

The reason is, users can see indicators of other people who are typing, read receipts, and send high-quality photos.

Apple Intelligence

Apple's latest AI technology also improves Messages capabilities. Although not all devices support it, this feature is said to change the way users communicate.

One of the capabilities offered is to provide suggestions on what to write based on analysis of previous messages. Apart from that, there is also Genmoji, a feature that allows AI to create images based on descriptions, concepts, or even a person from a photo gallery.

Tapbacks are getting more expressive

Tapback is a quick way to respond to messages, and in iOS 18, that capability is enhanced. Because, no longer limited to just a few emojis, users can use any emoji or sticker, including Live Stickers that they design themselves.
