Criticized because the Indonesian National Team has never won in Group C, this is STY’s answer
Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – The coach of the Indonesian National Team, Shin Tae-yong (STY), answered criticism from the Indonesian people because they had not succeeded in bringing the Garuda squad to victory in the third round of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup in the Asia group C zone.
The man from South Korea admitted that his role as head coach certainly has pressure. However, he sees this as normal and views the criticism that comes to him as a form of concern from the Indonesian people.
“There is definitely pressure, the public’s attention is extraordinary. In this position (as a coach) you can’t just listen to sweet talk,” he told the media.
STY is also introspective because he feels he needs to listen to the voices of the fans squad Garuda. The father of two children used the criticism that came to him as a self-evaluation.
“When you get bad results, you have to listen to the voices of the fans. So I can evaluate myself and think about what the problem is,” he continued.
However, StY said that building a football team cannot be instant. He also asked the Indonesian National Team supporters to be patient and enjoy the process.
“Football is like that. We can’t change the team instantly. So I ask the fans to support us step by step. “It’s true that I’m not Indonesian, but I will try my best,” said STY.
STY is also determined to bring the Indonesian national team through to the 2026 World Cup. However, he also invites fans to be equally aware squad Garuda still has many shortcomings even though there have been many developments so far.
“Indeed, qualifying for the World Cup will definitely be a good achievement. That is the target we want to achieve. Even if we don’t, we can both think that there are still many shortcomings, but there is also a lot of development in Indonesian football,” said the 53 year old coach.
The former coach of the South Korean national team then asked fans in Indonesia to continue to provide support. Because the support of the fans is strength for him and makes him confident.
“This position as a coach is indeed tiring, but Indonesian fans provide extraordinary support. This is my strength and makes me confident. So I am grateful,” he said.
