Last Sunday (3), the Metawin cryptocurrency casino suffered an attack that resulted in the theft of more than US$4 million in tokens from its hot wallets on the Ethereum and Solana networks. The announcement came from Metawin’s CEO, Richard “Skel” Skelhorn.
The executive confirmed that the hacker exploited a vulnerability in the protocol’s “frictionless” withdrawal system. This type of system aims to facilitate quick withdrawals for users. But it apparently became a point of failure that allowed the attacker to carry out the theft.
Blockchain analyst ZachXBT, in partnership with Skelhorn, analyzed the situation and identified 115 wallet addresses related to the attack. According to ZachXBT, the hacker showed a high level of technical competence, which allowed the robbery to be carried out precisely.
After the attack, the attacker transferred funds to Kucoin and HitBTC exchanges, using a nested service to make transactions more difficult to trace.

Following the attack, Metawin temporarily suspended withdrawals to protect customer funds and prevent further losses. However, according to Skelhorn, the casino restored the withdrawal system shortly after, and he assured that the team is taking measures to reinforce security.
In a message on Discord, Skelhorn announced that he has already called the authorities to investigate the case. “We are not going to dwell on this. It’s in the hands of the authorities now. We will make internal adjustments to keep our players happy and keep bad actors away,” he declared.
Furthermore, the CEO demonstrated commitment to protecting Metawin users, mentioning that, to cover the immediate loss, he used his own resources. “I just emptied my piggy bank. We don’t dwell on it. We continue to build”, stated Skelhorn, demonstrating confidence and dedication in continuing to develop the platform.
The attack on Metawin adds to a series of recent incidents involving theft on cryptocurrency platforms. Hackers have improved their techniques to exploit vulnerabilities in protocols, especially in quick withdrawal systems, such as Metawin.
In response, industry platforms have been intensifying their security protocols to protect client funds and preserve the integrity of systems.
