Curry Leads US to Men’s Basketball Gold, Defeats Hosts

Paris, Todaysgist.com – Stephen Curry became the star of the United States (US) when he defeated the host France with a score of 98-87 and won the gold medal in basketball at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Sunday (11/8/2024) early morning WIB.

As written APThe U.S. is once again on top of the international men’s basketball world, after Curry scored 24 points, all on 3-pointers. It was the U.S.’s fifth straight gold medal. They have also won 17 of their 20 all-time appearances in the Olympic basketball final.

“You just stay confident, stay present and don’t get shaken up in the moment,” said Curry, who has hit 17 3-pointers in his last two games. He also hit nine 3-pointers against Serbia in the semifinals that sent them to the final.

Curry hit four 3-pointers in the final 2.43 seconds, including a game-winning 3-pointer with 1.19 seconds left. That gave the U.S. a 93-84 lead and Curry jumped up and screamed, shaking his jersey so everyone could see “USA” on the front.

“For me to get a gold medal is crazy, and I thank God for the opportunity to experience it,” Curry said.

Kevin Durant–the first four-time men’s gold medalist in Olympic basketball history–scored 15 points for the Americans, as did Devin Booker and LeBron James, who wore metallic gold shoes.

James scored 14 points to win his fourth Olympic medal and third gold. “It’s very humbling that I’m still able to play this game,” James said.

“Playing at a high level, playing with 11 other great players and a great coaching staff and going forward and doing it for our country. It was an incredible moment,” he said.

It was France’s second straight defeat to the U.S. in an Olympic basketball final. France lost to the U.S. 87-82 in Tokyo three years ago, and that defeat came in the final minutes.
