The CRO cryptocurrency was launched by the company Crypto.com as part of its vision to “put cryptocurrency in every wallet.” Crypto.com itself was founded in June 2016 as “Monaco Technologies GmbH” by Kris Marszalek, Rafael Melo, Gary Or, and Bobby Bao.

Kris Marszalek, an alumnus of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poland, founded and led three companies before starting Crypto.com. Rafael Melo earned his bachelor’s degree in engineering from PUC-Rio.

During his 15+ year career in finance, Melo has worked with major companies in Asia and helped secure over AUD50 million in funding for social commerce website Ensogo.

Gary Or is a software engineer with over nine years of full-stack engineering experience. Bobby Bao previously worked in the M&A department of investment bank China Renaissance. Bao has studied at the University of Melbourne, NYU Stern School of Business, and the College of William & Mary.
