Donald Trump Campaign Team Starts Accepting Crypto Donations

Todaysgist.com, Jakarta – Donald Trump's campaign team announced they would start accepting crypto donations, declaring the move in solidarity with opponents of the socialist government's control of the United States (US) financial markets.

“Supporters of former President Donald Trump can donate using any cryptocurrency accepted through Coinbase Commerce products,” his campaign said in a press release, quoted from CNBCMonday (3/6/2024).

The announcement links President Joe Biden, who is running for reelection against Trump, with Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., an outspoken crypto critic who has pushed to clamp down on the nascent industry.

The move opens up a new potential source of funding for Trump's campaign, which still lags behind Joe Biden in terms of cash despite defeating the Democratic incumbent in April.

Crypto donations will be reported as in-kind contributions, just like gifts of stock. The campaign can then decide to liquidate the digital currency or keep it.

“Contribution limits and disclosure requirements for crypto donations will follow Federal Election Commission regulations,” the Trump campaign said.

Crypto acceptance is just the latest in a series of attempts by Trump to woo the crypto community, which skews younger and more male, according to an April 2023 Pew Research Center poll.

In December, Trump sold a limited number of NFT trading cards that could be purchased with cryptocurrency, for example. Earlier this month, he hosted a lavish dinner for his NFT supporters at the Mar-a-Lago club.

There, Trump told crypto supporters they better vote for him, because the Biden administration is against crypto.
