Donald Trump survived an assassination attempt that took place on a golf course in Florida on Sunday (15/9/2024) at 14.00 local time.

US authorities confirmed that a suspected suspect had been detained.

As reported by the BBC, Monday (16/9/20240), Secret Service agents saw the barrel of a gun sticking out of the bushes and fired shots at him. The FBI said Trump was 300-500 yards (275 to 455 meters) away at the time.

An AK47 firearm and binoculars, along with two backpacks and a GoPro camera, were later found at the scene.

A witness reported seeing the suspect run from the bushes and jump into a black Nissan after authorities shot him several times.

Witnesses took pictures of the vehicle and its license plate which was later stopped in Martin County, north of the golf club.

“We contacted the Martin County Sheriff’s Office, notified them, and they saw the vehicle and stopped it and took the individual into custody,” said Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw.

“After that, we brought the witness who saw the incident, flew him there and he identified the person as the same person who ran out of the bushes, and got into the car.”
