Donald Trump’s Bitcoin Pledge If Re-Elected US President
The federal government currently holds an estimated 200,000+ bitcoins acquired during various law enforcement operations. The federal government has sold bitcoins acquired in this manner at auction several times in the past.
President Trump has pledged to hold these bitcoins as part of a new strategic bitcoin stockpile. A vocal contingent of pro-bitcoin lawmakers, led by U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis, is beginning to coalesce, with a total of four U.S. Senators and three Senate candidates speaking at the conference.
Lummis announced a proposal to “boost the U.S. dollar by creating a program in which the federal government would acquire one million bitcoins.
Make the US a Crypto Hub
Trump has positioned himself as a pro-cryptocurrency candidate ahead of the Nov. 5 presidential election, saying he would make the U.S. the world’s cryptocurrency leader and welcome friendlier regulations.
“If we don’t embrace crypto technology and bitcoin, China will, other countries will. They will dominate, and we can’t let China dominate. They’ve made too much progress,” Trump said at the conference.
