Duet with Leylah, Aldila Arranges Strategy Ahead of the Top 16 of the China Open 2024

Jakarta, Todaysgist.com – Indonesian female tennis player Aldila Sutjiadi and her partner Leylah Fernandez will analyze the opponent’s game to design a strategy for the doubles match in the last 16 of the China Open 2024.

Aldila, who was paired with a tennis player from Canada, managed to advance to the second round after eliminating the host pair, Guo Hanyu and Jiang Xinyu, on Saturday (28/9/2024).

In the round of 16 scheduled for Monday (30/9/2024), Aldila and Leylah will face the fifth seeds, Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani from Italy.

“The next round will definitely be more challenging than the first round because Errani and Paolini are also great players in singles and doubles. We will watch their match in the first round and from there we will develop a strategy,” said Aldila, Sunday (29/9/2024 ).

Paolini is currently ranked 5th in the world for singles and 15th for doubles. Meanwhile, his compatriot, Errani, is ranked 87th for singles and 13th for doubles.

Even though Aldila and Leylah are not on the seed list at the China Open and this is their first time pairing up at the WTA 1,000 event, the two of them already know each other.

Leylah caught the world’s attention after reaching the final of the 2021 US Open at the age of 19, beating several top players such as Naomi Osaka and Aryna Sabalenka on her way to the final.

“The adaptation process actually didn’t take long because we already knew each other’s playing styles,” said Aldila.

Aldila and Leylah defeated Guo Hanyu/Jiang Xinyu with a score of 6-2, 7-6(7) in a match lasting 1 hour 30 minutes. Victory over the home pair in the initial round was an important asset for Aldila and Leylah to advance to the next round.

“In the first set we played quite well, chemistry “We immediately connected from the start,” said Aldila.

The 29 year old tennis player revealed that in the second set, the opponent played better and began to read his and Leylah’s game. They also experienced difficulties. However, in the end they were able to get up and win tie break in the second set.

Towards the end of 2024, Aldila will take part in a series of tournaments in Asia, starting from Beijing (China Open) then to Wuhan (still paired with Leylah), and continuing to Ningbo.

After that, Aldila will compete at the WTA 500 Tokyo, Japan, in October 2024.

This series of tournaments in Asia is very important to improve Aldila’s ranking, considering that his ranking had fallen from its highest position, namely 26th in the world on 23 October 2023, to 45th in the world on 28 September 2024.
