Eko Yuli Irawan is an alumnus of the 2024 Paris Olympics, appearing very impressive in the men’s 67 kg class. He recorded a total lift of 309 kg consisting of 138 kg in the lift. snatch and 171 kg in the lift clean and jerk.
In second place, athlete M Nur Afuad Jamal from West Java recorded a total lift of 287 kg, while Harjianto from Lampung was in third place with a total lift of 268 kg.
In addition to winning the gold medal, Eko Yuli Irawan managed to break his personal record set at the 2021 Papua PON for the clean and jerk, which at that time was 170 kg.
Eko Yuli said that although breaking a personal record was a proud achievement, his main target was to win a gold medal at this year’s PON.
“Even though I broke my own record, that was not my main target. My main target is to win a gold medal at this PON,” said Eko Yuli Irawan, Friday (6/9/2024).
He said that his preparation for this year’s PON was not optimal because he had to focus more on recovering from the injury he suffered during the 2024 Paris Olympics. Eko Yuli only had 10 days to prepare for the PON after returning from the Olympics.
This achievement adds to the list of successes of Eko Yuli and the East Java weightlifting contingent, and is an inspiration for other athletes.
