Elaelo Disappears from the Internet, Is Social Media Really a Substitute for X Twitter Made by the Government?

Todaysgist.com, Jakarta – Elaelo has become a hot topic of discussion among netizens, with many people arguing that this social media (medsos) is an alternative to X which will be blocked.

Elaelo itself is predicted to be a locally made social media replacement for X-Twitter, if Elon Musk's platform is blocked by Kominfo.

According to the team's search Todaysgist.comMonday (17/6/2024), there are many doubts regarding the legitimacy and security of the Elaelo site.

The first thing is the writing on the main page of the elaelo site. “Welcome to elaelo – Local Social Media Substitute for X/Twitter” is very suspicious.

Not only that, the site creator also installed an image or logo of the Indonesian state symbol. Because of this, many netizens think Elaelo's social media is made by the government.

In terms of appearance, this social media is not too different from X Twitter with Sign In to enter Username or email and Password in the column provided to access it.

If you don't have an account, users can register or sign up by clicking the link on the main social media page.

Since it is not known who created it, it is very risky if you enter your personal email and it could be used for various cyber crimes, such as phishing, hacking, and many more.

We also dug deeper into when the site first appeared. Based on the web archive, this site appeared on the internet on March 5, 2024.

When it appeared, this site already posted a photo of Guy Fawkes. However, the words “Welcome to elaelo – Local Social Media Substitute for X/Twitter” and the Garuda Bird logo have not appeared.

Instead, the main page just says “Welcome to elaelo” and a logo. This change occurred around June 17 2024 so that it appears as it does today.

Various other things about the inaccessibility of “About Us”, and the time when this site appeared to be widely discussed on X can also be a sign that social media needs to be wary of its authenticity and security.

So, was this site created by the Government as an alternative when Kominfo blocks X later? Even though it displays the Garuda Bird logo, this social media does not necessarily mean it was created by the government. We have now tried to ask the Ministry of Communication and Information about this.

When this news was written, the Elaelo site itself had disappeared from the internet with a message reading “This Account Has Been Suspended!” or “This account has been Suspended!” when accessed via Google, Opera and Edge browsers.
