Eradicate Online Gambling, Kominfo Blocks 32 Credit to Cash Conversion Sites

Todaysgist.com, Jakarta – The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kominfo) has again taken firm steps in an effort to eradicate online gambling. This time, Kominfo has officially blocked 32 sites that provide credit conversion services into cash.

These sites are said to be often used as a means of transaction in online gambling activities. According to Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi, the blocking has been carried out starting today, Wednesday (8/8/2024).

“We do not tolerate it and all parties must unite in eradicating online gambling,” said the Minister of Communication and Information.

Furthermore, the Minister of Communication and Information also said that this step was taken because online gambling disrupts the socio-economic conditions of lower-class communities, such as disrupting household economies.

Not only that, society also experiences social impacts from online gambling activities such as increased crime, increased divorce, and children experiencing malnutrition.

Of the 32 blocked credit conversion sites, only one is officially registered as a PSE (Electronic System Organizer), namely Boss Pulsa. While the other 31 PSEs operate without official permits.

The blocking of this site is carried out based on PP Number 71 of 2019 concerning the Implementation of Electronic Systems and Transactions (PSTE). Article 6 of the PP regulates the registration obligations of PSEs that provide goods or services trading services.

Meanwhile, Article 100 paragraph 1 of PP 71 of 2019 regulates sanctions in the form of terminating access to PSEs suspected of being used to facilitate online gambling transactions.

The Minister of Communication and Information asserted that eradicating online gambling requires comprehensive and consistent efforts from all parties. In addition to blocking the sites involved, the Ministry of Communication and Information also asked mobile operators to limit the amount of credit transfers per day to a maximum of IDR 1 million.

He also asked all stakeholders to monitor online gambling activities involving financial transactions.

“Kominfo also reminds financial institutions, including banks, to play an active role in eradicating online gambling,” he said in closing his statement.
