Todaysgist.com, Jakarta – The Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo) together with the National Cyber ​​and Crypto Agency (BSSN) have just admitted that the National Data Center (PDN) was attacked by hackers or the Brain Cipher Ransomware hacker group.

This irresponsible party has locked government data, along with public data in it.

Director General of Aptika Semuel Pangerapan revealed the moments when the Brain Cipher Ransomware group attacked the National Data Center.

“That in the early hours of Thursday (20/6/2024), the National Data Center server was attacked. The data contained in PDN was encrypted by hackers,” he said.

“On Thursday morning, we discovered that the data at PDN had been attacked,” added Semuel, at the Sementera National Data Center Update press conference on Monday (24/6/2024) at the Jakarta Communications and Information Office, Wednesday (24/6/2024).

After investigating the problem, Kominfo together with the forensic team are still looking for the source of the spread. Until now, Kominfo has not provided results regarding the investigation.

“We are still investigating this matter further,” said Semuel.

For your information, the attack is Brain Cipher Ransomware. This malware is a development of LockBit 3.0 which previously claimed victims, one of which was Bank Syariah Indonesia in May 2023.

“This malware variant attacks PDN with more or less the same tactics as the BSI attack, but the method used is somewhat different,” added Semuel.

For the ransomware attack, Kominfo and BSSN also apologized.

“We apologize to the public for being disturbed by the PDN problem, especially the immigration problem,” said BSSN, Hinsa Siburian.
