Finishing 5th, La Memo Rowers Continue to Repechage Round

Paris, Todaysgist.com – Rowing athletes or rowing Indonesia, La Memo finished fifth when competing in the preliminary round of the sport in the number single sculls men’s Olympic Games Paris 2024 held at Nautica St – Flat Water, Saturday (27/7/2024).

Shown on heat 2, Memo recorded a time of 1 minute 42.89 seconds in the first 500 meters. Entering the 1,000 meters, the rower from Maluku remained in fifth place with a time of 3 minutes 31.25 seconds.

Entering the 1,500-meter distance, the 29-year-old athlete was still struggling to get past Isak Ivan Zvegelj from Slovakia who finished fourth with 7 minutes 01.23 seconds. Until the end of the 2,000 meters, Memo remained in fifth place with a total time of 7 minutes 19.33 seconds.

“Looking at Memo earlier, it was very difficult to get into third place. The wind was from the side, Memo tried to hold the speed target in the first 500 meters. However, Memo has fought hard,” said the National Rowing Team coach, Muhammad Hadris.

Romania’s Mihai Chiruta was the fastest in heat 2 with a time of 6 minutes 51 seconds, followed by Damir Martin from Croatia with 6 minutes 54.83 seconds, then Giedrius Bieliauskas from Lithuania with 7 minutes 00.96 seconds in third place.

Next, Memo will appear again in the next round. Repechage to fight to qualify for the quarter-finals of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“This is also part of Memo’s strategy to race next, in the round Repechage tomorrow. Now the weather is good, the weather is cooler. Memo has done his best, tomorrow we continue, to go to the quarter finals, hopefully Memo can be better than today,” said Hadris.
