Last Tuesday, the 3rd, BlackRock further increased the amount of Bitcoin in its ETF, the iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT). With a volume of inputs of US$693 million in a single daythe asset giant accumulates more than 500,000 BTC under your control. As a result, United States ETFs together hold around 1.03 million Bitcoin, approaching the total number of Bitcoin owned by the legendary Satoshi Nakamoto, who owns 1.096 million Bitcoin.
In current numbers, Satoshi holds a fortune of more than $100 billion with the number of Bitcoin you have kept in your possession since the creation of cryptocurrencies. The gigantic BlackRock holds almost half that amount in Bitcoin, around $48 billion.
IBIT was launched by BlackRock in January 2024, with a share price of around US$24. At the time, the value of Bitcoin was around US$46,000 and the manager had just over 120 million invested in the cryptocurrencies, 0.01% of the market share, according to data from the SoSoValue platform.
In less than 12 months, the BlackRock ETF captured an impressive 2.56% of all Bitcoin available on the marketreaching the surprising mark of 500 thousand Bitcoin. The shares followed the same pace and doubled in price, surpassing US$50 in December, after Bitcoin’s latest rally.
ETFs about to complete one year
Recent Bitcoin acquisitions made by BlackRock in recent weeks have seen the asset manager surpass MicroStrategy in Bitcoin volume. THE company is the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin and has made billion-dollar cryptocurrency acquisitionsincluding selling part of its shares to invest in Bitcoin. The company led by Michale Saylor has an impressive 400,000 Bitcoin under its control, inspiring market giants.
Recently, Microsoft opened an internal vote on a proposal presented to the Council for the purchase of Bitcoin. Even though the company’s Board recommended rejecting the proposal, the market was euphoric. Even leading Michael Sayler himself to declare that Microsoft could be worth US$5 trillion if it invested in Bitcoin.
