Foot Injury Forces Emma Raducanu to Withdraw from 2024 China Open

Jakarta, Todaysgist.com – Emma Raducanu announced her withdrawal from the 2024 China Open. The cause was a sprained ligament injury to her left foot. Raducanu had previously appeared in the draw held in Beijing on Monday (23/9/2024).

She is scheduled to play in the qualifying round before a possible meeting with Olympic champion Qinwen Zheng in the second round.

However, less than an hour later Raducanu withdrew from the WTA 1000 event. She had previously withdrawn from her quarter-final in Seoul against Daria Kasatkina with a foot problem.

“Hello, last week in Seoul I sprained a ligament in my foot which unfortunately took a while to heal. That means I won’t be able to play in Beijing but I hope to be back as soon as possible,” Raducanu said on her X account.

Previously, world number one and defending champion Iga Swiatek decided to withdraw from the 2024 China Open in Beijing due to personal reasons.

“Due to personal reasons, I have to withdraw from the China Open in Beijing. I am very sorry, as I enjoyed playing and winning this tournament last year, and was really looking forward to returning,” Swiatek said via the official WTA website, Saturday (21/9/2024).
