Former midfielder Jucilei, who played for clubs such as Corinthians, São Paulo and had a stint with the Brazilian national team, was one of the victims of a billion-dollar pyramid scheme involving investments in cryptocurrencies, as revealed in a report by Fantástico last Sunday.
According to the police investigation, the former player’s losses reached R$45 million. Jucilei, currently 36 years old and retired since 2022, had a career marked by stints in countries such as China, Russia and the United Arab Emirates.
US authorities, through the US Department of Homeland Security, identified it as a pyramid scheme. According to authorities, the total impact was US$50 million (around R$280 million).
The pyramid scheme in question was operated by a company called Forcount. The company presented itself as a cryptocurrency investment platform and digital payments system. On social media, a man known as Salvador Molina was promoted as the company’s CEO, attracting investors with promises of high profits.

However, the investigation revealed that Salvador Molina never existed. The man posing as the CEO was actually a hired actor. The real mastermind behind the scheme was Francisley Valdevino da Silva, a Brazilian nicknamed the “Bitcoin Sheik” who resided in Paraná.
The US authorities requested the support of the Brazilian Federal Police, which quickly discovered other frauds in Francisley’s companies, such as the Rental Coins pyramid scheme and InterAg. In an operation carried out by the PF, search and seizure warrants were executed at 20 addresses linked to him. It is estimated that, in 2022, the scheme will have moved approximately R$4 billion.
The pyramid scheme resulted in around 15,000 victims in Brazil, many of whom are still waiting to recover their invested funds. According to the victims’ lawyer, Bernardo Regueira Campos, Francisley always displayed a luxurious lifestyle and liked to flaunt his financial status.
Despite having been arrested before, the “Bitcoin Sheikh” continued to operate new schemes, using the names of former employees to open new companies. Last month, the Federal Police arrested the Sheikh again.
Francisley now faces charges of money laundering, organized crime and fraud against the financial system in Brazil. In addition, he is a defendant in a similar case in the United States, along with other Forcount partners.
