Google Photos Gets Photo Search Feature with Gemini AI

Previously, Google and Apple collaborated to launch a new tool to transfer photos from Google Photos to iCloud.

As part of the Data Transfer Initiative (DTI), this tool will add iCloud transfers to Google Takeout’s export options.

The tool, which will launch next week, automates the process of transferring from Google Photos to iCloud, so you don’t have to download, upload, or do anything other than start the process on the web.

Apple’s support page says photo transfers may take several hours to several days to complete, depending on the size of the files being transferred.

Transferring images from Google to iCloud won’t remove them from Google Photos, so you’ll have to do that manually if you want.

Additionally, this service will not work for child accounts, Managed Apple ID accounts (set up through an IT admin), or iCloud accounts with Advanced Data Protection enabled.

Previously, the photo transfer tool from iCloud to Google Photos was launched in 2021. While the DTI movement was launched in 2023 as a collaboration between Apple, Google, and Meta.

Officially, the organization was formed to achieve the goals of the open source Data Transfer Project (DTP) which began five years earlier.
