Hansi Flick Explains Why Barcelona Signed Goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny

Jakarta, Todaysgist.com – Barcelona coach Hansi Flick explains why Barcelona signed Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny. The goalkeeper whose contract was not extended by Juventus was recruited by Barcelona even though he had previously decided to retire.

Asked about the reason why Barcelona recruited the 34-year-old goalkeeper, Hansi Flick revealed his answer. Szczesny was recruited by the Spanish club as a replacement for Marc-Andre Ter Stegen who must be absent until the end of this season due to injury.

“I only speak about the players I have. Inaki (Pena) is our number one and we are very happy with him. That’s all I can say,” he said.

“Inaki is 25 years old, but the other goalkeepers are very young. We need a more experienced goalkeeper and that’s why we talked about him (Szczesny). We talked about it and discussed it, and we have to decide,” said the German coach.

Meanwhile, regarding the match against Getafe, Flick admitted that this match was very difficult for his team. Barcelona recorded their seventh victory in the Spanish League by defeating their guests Getafe 1-0 on Thursday (26/9/2024) early morning WIB at the Olympic Stadium.

“I was told that against Getafe it was normal, they are a good team in defense. The team fought for 95 minutes. I am proud of the team, they fought all game. I am also proud of the fans who realized that we needed them,” added Flick.

According to the former Bayern Munich coach, Getafe were very good at defending and compact. That made it difficult for Barcelona.

Barcelona won thanks to a goal scored by Robert Lewandowski in the 19th minute. This is Barcelona’s seventh win and maintains their record of always winning in their action in La Liga this season.

“Sometimes we didn’t have the pace we needed. In the end we scored to get the three points,” he said.
