Hashtag “Guard MK Decision” Continues to Echo on X Twitter, Netizens Move to Secure Regional Election Bill

Todaysgist.com, Jakarta – Netizens have once again shown their strength in fighting for democracy by echoing #KawalPustusMK on social media, such as X/Twitter.

As a result, the hashtag “Kawal Rutusan MK” has now become a trending topic on Elon Musk’s social media platform since Thursday morning (22/8/2024).

Based on Todaysgist.com team monitoring, as of 10.30 WIB today, the hashtag “Watch MK Decision” has been tweeted by netizens using more than 1.6 million times.

This movement began as a response from the people in the country to the agenda of the DPR Legislative Body (Baleg) meeting which was held on Wednesday (21/8/2024).

The meeting discussed the Draft Law (RUU) on Regional Elections, which many parties consider an effort to review the Constitutional Court (MK) ruling regarding the threshold for regional head nominations and the age requirements for candidates in regional elections.

The issue became even more heated when the DPR Baleg finally decided to bring the revision of the Pilkada Bill to the Plenary Session. Many netizens and activists felt that this revision was done to overturn the Constitutional Court’s decision.

Previously, a threshold and minimum age requirement of 30 years for regional head candidates was set, calculated at the time of inauguration.

Since the decision was made, netizens have been busy posting images of the Garuda with a blue background on X and Instagram Stories as a form of support.

Currently, a number of community groups and organizations are holding demonstrations in front of the MPR and MK buildings.

In addition to #KawalPustusMK, related hashtags ranging from #TolakPilkadaAkal2an, #TolakPoliticsDynasty, Unity, Raja Jawa, and DPR Building have also entered the list of trending topics today.
