Here's What Donald Trump Posted on Social Media After Being Shot During US Presidential Campaign

Unsubstantiated claims about what happened at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, US flooded social media immediately after former President Donald Trump was shot.

Without any clear evidence, many social media posts have blamed left-wing figures for targeting Donald Trump, and built on the idea that a “deep state” or secret cabal within the government is trying to stop him from returning to the White House.

The unverified claims appeared on social media platforms including Gab, Truth Social and Parler, which are favored by far-right groups.

Quoting the page New York TimesSunday (14/7/2024), this disinformation also spread on X, Telegram, Facebook, and Instagram.

In this regard, disinformation experts immediately urged caution and warned the public not to jump to conclusions.

“We will see a lot of disinformation spread about who was behind the shooting, who executed it, and the events that led up to it,” wrote Roberta Braga, founder of the Digital Democracy Institute of the Americas think tank at X.

Law enforcement officials need time to investigate what happened at the rally.

Video from the event showed Donald Trump falling to the stage and bleeding from his ear before being escorted off by Secret Service agents.
