IBL 2024 Final SM vs Pelita Jaya Use Home Away Format

Jakarta, Todaysgist.com – The 2024 Indonesian Basketball League (IBL) final will use a home-away format (home away) for the first time in the biggest basketball competition in Indonesia which is the peak match of the national competition.

This was stated directly by IBL Director Junas Miradiarsyah in a press conference in preparation for the 2024 IBL final between Satria Muda (SM) and Pelita Jaya at Spark Senayan Jakarta, Tuesday (30/7/2024).

According to him, the final with this format is believed to be more satisfying to the desires of basketball lovers in Indonesia. Moreover, these two big teams are ambitious to win the championship title.

“This has never happened before. This is a new experience for the participating teams. They can compete in front of their own fans,” said Junas.

In addition, Junas added that the home away format was the first to be implemented this season. This was done to raise public enthusiasm and the spirit of each club to play in their home region, especially in entertaining their own supporters.

So we created a format home away from start playoff “to develop in terms of the market, starting from the supporters and the economic side, so that the sports ecosystem can be built,” he said.

Junas revealed that the first match of the final will be held at Britama Arena, Jakarta, which is Satria Muda’s home ground on Thursday (1/8/2024).

Then the second game will take place at Pelita Jaya’s headquarters at the Indoor Stadium SC, Tangerang, Saturday (3/8/2024).

If two matches are drawn or 1-1, then the third match will still be held at the SC Indoor Stadium.

The reason is, Pelita Jaya has a better ranking than Satria Muda in the regular round this season.

This condition certainly benefits Jerome Anthony Beane Jr. and his colleagues because they have a greater chance of winning the IBL trophy this season.

Moreover, Pelita Jaya wants to end its negative trend during its appearance in the IBL final in the previous three editions, which always failed to win the title.

However, the record of meetings in the regular season round, both teams have one win and one loss.

Satria Muda heads into the final as the team with the most IBL titles, while Pelita Jaya is a team that has made it to the final four times in the last seven years, although it has always failed to become champion.
