Imitating the U-22 National Team at the 2023 SEA Games, PSIS Semarang Adds a Team of Coaches

– PSIS Semarang has been preparing for the 2023/2024 League 1 competition since Monday (22/5/2023) yesterday. Apart from bringing in new players to improve the quality of the team, PSIS Semarang also plans to add personnel to its coaching team.

This plan was disclosed by the CEO of PSIS, Yoyok Sukawi, who said there would be one additional coach on the team. “Currently we are also communicating with one of the assistant coaches who has coached a Liga 1 club as well. His license is A and is currently studying A Pro. Hopefully we can release it in the near future,” said Yoyok Sukawi quoted on the New Indonesia League page, Wednesday ( 24/5/2023).

Yoyok explained, the addition of personnel to the coaching team imitated the success of the U-22 national team which won a gold medal at the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia.

As is well known, the U-22 National Team Coach, Indra Sjafri, is assisted by a number of assistants who are also Indonesian national team legends, from Kurniawan Dwi Yulianto, Eko Purdjianto, Bima Sakti to Sahari Gultom. They have their respective roles which mutually support each other.

“If we look at it, the U-22 Indonesian national team at the SEA Games is filled with legends in each position from striker to goalkeeper. PSIS will follow the same steps and we will place quality coaches on each line,” Yoyok said again.

In the current composition of the coaching team, the PSIS head coach is filled by a Maltese coach Gilbert Agius and assisted by a number of PSIS legends starting from I Komang Putra, Muhammad Ridwan to Idrus Gunawan.

On the other hand, Mahesa Jenar is currently undergoing training led by assistant trainer M Ridwan. This is because head coach Gilbert Agius has not yet arrived in Indonesia.

Several new local players such as M Sabillah, Rifky Suryawan, Giovani Numberi and Tri Setiawan participated in the training. Meanwhile, three foreign players and three Indonesian U-22 national team players have yet to join forces, including the new midfielder from Arema FC, Gian Zola.
