Indonesian House of Representatives Email Allegedly Hacked, Hacker Threatens to Leak Sensitive Information to the World

Todaysgist.com, Jakarta – The internet is currently abuzz with the circulation of an email stating that the Indonesian House of Representatives has been hacked, and sending an emergency message to all Indonesian people.

This screenshot has become a hot topic on various social media platforms, especially on X—formerly known as Twitter.

In the written email message, the sender spread a call to the Indonesian people to fight injustice, criticize nepotism, and declare the power of the people.

This message also warns of the possibility of leaking sensitive information belonging to the Indonesian House of Representatives if the hacker’s demands are not met.

“Revoke the DPR rules and stop any further involvement in destroying our Constitution, or we will leak sensitive information belonging to the DPR RI to the world this week!” the message read as posted by the IndoPopBase account on X, Thursday (8/22/2024).

The perpetrators also admitted that they had sent this email to the entire country. “It’s time for the people to move, our country is in a state of emergency. There is only one word, fight!” the message read.

Regarding this, Indra Iskandar, as the Secretary General (Sekjen) of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), spoke up. “Regarding the misuse of one of the DPR email accounts at 10.26 WIB, we can convey that the Secretariat General has deactivated the account,” read a short message to Indra to the Todaysgist.com team, Thursday (22/8/2024).

He added, “Currently, the Secretariat General is conducting an investigation and working with BSSN to handle this problem.”
