Indonesian National Team Advances to Quarter Finals of U-20 Men’s Asian Volleyball Championship

Surabaya, Todaysgist.com – The Indonesian national team is confirmed to have advanced to the quarter-finals after defeating Saudi Arabia 3-0 (25-20, 25-13, 25-19) in the preliminary round of Pool A of the 2024 U-20 Asian Men’s Volleyball Championship (22nd Asian Men’s Volleyball Champions) at the Jawa Pos Arena Surabaya, Wednesday (24/7/2024) evening.

This result was the second win for the home team after silencing Hong Kong’s resistance the day before, also with a score of 3-0.

Mohammad Fahril and his friends still have one more match left in the qualifying round against Australia on Thursday (25/7/2024). Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia will compete for a quarter-final ticket with Hong Kong in the last qualifying round.

“Before this match, we and the coaching team have studied the opponent’s game recordings. One of the things we strengthened was blocking and it worked,” said Indonesian National Team Captain, Mohammad Fahril after the match.

The match between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia was fierce from the start because both teams were determined to ensure they qualified for the quarter-finals after both winning their first matches.

Indonesia, supported by thousands of supporters, played well and solidly. Dawuda Alaihi, Farchan Vachrezy, Krisnha, Tino, and Fahril worked together to put pressure on their opponents.
A number of mistakes made by Saudi Arabian players were exploited by the Garuda Jaya boys to put pressure on and take the first set 25-20.

Entering the second set, the home team’s confidence increased. Several tight blocks by Dawuda, Tino and Farchan stopped Saudi Arabia’s attacks. Indonesia won again 25-13.

Behind two sets, Saudi Arabia did not want to give up. Hasan Al Salam and his friends tried to provide resistance by improving blocks and reception of service balls. They were leading 6-4, but the hosts were chasing 7-7.

The score between the two teams was tight at 18-17 for Indonesia, until finally a block point from Dawuda ended Saudi Arabia’s resistance 25-19.

This victory has not satisfied the coach, Li Qiujiang. “There are still many things to fix. Especially mistakes in service,” said the Chinese coach after the match.

According to him, the Saudi Arabian team made many mistakes, both from serving and receiving. “I will fix it again,” he added.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia’s assistant coach, Abdullah Al Jabr said that the Indonesian national team on paper is better than his country. “Especially Dauda. He never made a mistake in the team,” he said.

In addition to Indonesia, defending champion Iran also secured a place in the quarter-finals after defeating Taiwan with a score of 3-0 (25-13, 25-12, 25-19) in the second match of Group B. Likewise, Japan won again 3-0 (25-7, 25-22, 25-15) over Bangladesh in the Group C match.

The 2024 Asian U-20 Men’s Volleyball Championship will take place in Surabaya from 23 to 30 July and will feature 16 teams divided into four groups.

For Group A and B matches, they were held at Jawapos Arena, while the teams in Group C and D competed at Gelora Pancasila.
