Indonesian National Team Coach Reveals Reasons for Boosting Physical Training in Bali
Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – The physical trainer for the Indonesian National Team, Shin Sang-gyu, explained the reasons behind implementing high-intensity physical training during the training camp in Bali ahead of the 2024 AFF Cup or 2024 ASEAN Championship.
According to Shin, this training program aims to increase the fitness level of the Garuda National Team players, most of whom are made up of the U-22 National Team. This is done so that they are physically able to compete with senior players from other countries during the tournament.
“We still have time before the first match against Myanmar, but we have to make good use of it. That’s why in the last three days, we have applied high intensity in training,” explained Shin via a video upload on the official Instagram of the Indonesian national team, quoted Thursday (5/12 /2024).
He admitted that this training was quite tough for the players. “Maybe they feel DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness), sore muscles, and fatigue. “However, they will adapt to these conditions, and after recovering, their fitness will be much better than before,” he added.
In the 2024 AFF Cup, Indonesia is in group B with Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines and Vietnam. The first match will be played against Myanmar on Monday (9/12/2024) at Thuwunna Stadium, Yangon.
Shin also explained that training patterns would be adjusted ahead of the match. He suggested that players continue to train lightly at gym to maintain fitness without burdening the body.
“The day before the match, practice at gym It can still be done, but with low intensity. Simple core or additional exercises are enough,” Shin said.
After facing Myanmar, Indonesia will host Laos on December 12 at the Manahan Stadium, Solo. Next, the Garuda team will visit Vietnam on December 15 at Phu Tho Stadium and close the preliminary round against the Philippines in Solo on December 21.
To date, Indonesia’s best achievement in the AFF Cup is becoming runner-up six times, namely in 2000, 2002, 2004, 2010, 2016 and 2020.
