Indonesian National Team Subject to FIFA Sanctions, This is the Punishment
Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – The Indonesian national team was subject to FIFA sanctions for committing several violations. Ahead of the matches against Japan and Saudi Arabia in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, Indonesia was punished. FIFA imposed four penalties on the Indonesian National Team coached by Shin Tae-yong.
This sanction was given because the Indonesian National Team was deemed to have made mistakes in the first four Group C matches in the 2026 World Cup qualification in the Asian zone.
The four sanctions are due to delays kick-off when hosting Australia in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in the Asian zone, manager Sumardji protested the third time he met Bahrain, protested by analyst Shin Tae-yong Kim Jong Jin, and the Indonesian national team was deemed to be the third late to appear at China’s headquarters.
“FIFA gave this sanction as a decision from the Disciplinary Committee for several incidents that occurred in September and October 2024 in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers,” FIFA said in its official release.
FIFA issued 27 sanctions and four of them were aimed at the Indonesian national team.
First Sanction
The first sanction was imposed on the Indonesian national team, related to delays kick-off by the Indonesian National Team when they hosted Australia in the second match of Group C qualifying for the 2026 World Cup in the Asian zone on Tuesday (10/9/2024). However, FIFA only gave a warning regarding the incident at SUGBK.
Second Sanction
The Indonesian National Team had to accept the second sanction, because of the actions of manager Sumardji. He received a one-match ban for protesting during the Indonesian national team’s away match to Bahrain on matchday third qualifier for the 2026 World Cup on Thursday, 10 October 2024 evening WIB. Sumardji underwent this sanction when Indonesia lost 1-2 to China in the fourth match.
Third Sanction
Shin Tae-yong’s analyst, Kim Jong-jin, also received heavy sanctions in the form of being banned from appearing in four matches. However, FIFA did not specify what violations this man from South Korea committed in the match against Bahrain.
Fourth Sanction
The fourth sanction was imposed by the Indonesian national team because it was considered late when they played away in China on October 15 2024. The Indonesian national team was subject to FIFA sanctions and was subject to a fine of 10,000 CHF or around Rp. 179 million. This penalty is interesting, considering the penalty for lateness kick-off was dropped even though Indonesia had the status of a visiting team.
